Calungsod artwork

THE CANNONIZATION of the first Visayan saint Pedro Calungsod has been set for Oct. 21 in Rome during impressive rites presided by Pope Benedict XVI at the square fronting St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
On Nov. 30 a national Mass of thanksgiving will be celebrated in Cebu at the Cebu South Road Properties with SM very much involved in the undertaking.
The Rome and Cebu events need the support of the community.
To raise funds a group of Cebuano volunteers have formed the Special Events Committee.
It counts with Marlinda Angbetic Tan as chair person; Carmel de Pio Salvador, vice chair person; Marissa Fernan, consultant; Gino Salvador and Robby Alugar, members.
They have been duly appointed by the Committee on Finance headed by Msgr. Roberto “Boy” Alesna. In that committee, too, are Mariquita Salimbangon Yeung, Ambassador Francisco Benedicto, and businessman Amado Go. Add to them Edna Diago Lhuillier, wife of former Ambassador to Italy Philippe Lhuillier.
The Special Events Committee has formulated a process whereby donors may help in the fund raising efforts for the canonization of Blessed Pedro Calungsod .
These kind-hearted donors will be acknowledge with a numbered Certificate of Donation.
Donations of P25,000 or more are being solicted, entitling the donor to a limited edition of a commemorative work of art designed by internationally famous Cebuano Kenneth Cobonpue.
There is also the chance to win two BMW cars (a 3 series, and a 1 series) and a unit of KIA Sorento. Only 1,200 certificates of donation will be issued.
Filipinos from all over the world are being invited to check the website address specially to inform about and receive the donation.
