The early morning rain didn't stop devotees from heading to the Blessed Pedro Calungsod parish church in Cantabaco, Toledo City, where four Masses were held for the Visayan martyr's canonization.
Some church-goers brought their own chairs while others stood outside with umbrellas in hand to fill up the church. SPO3 Socrates Aparicio of the Lutopan police precinct said around 25,000 attended the four Masses.
A group of teachers from the cities of Cebu and Mandaue brought their own food and ate outside their vehicles parked along the road. "We all agreed to take part of the celebration because this is once of a lifetime experience," devotee Leo Daculan said.
